The 2nd meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Council took place on November, 16. Once again members of the European Union “confirmed their solid support for territorial integrity of Georgia” and expressed concern of the Treaty on Alliance and Integration signed between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.
Such position of the EU was rather predictable and surprised nobody in South Ossetia. With desirable diligence keep Georgian politicians and diplomats calling the EU for supporting their deliberate misinformation and far-fetched claims for South Ossetian and Abkhazian territories. In their turn, in response to their protégés’ requests, representatives of the European Union regularly confirm their complete solidarity with Tbilisi as they turn a blind eye to Georgian baseless views.
South Ossetia Foreign Ministry numerous times has claimed that the Republic of South Ossetia and its territory had never belonged to Georgian state and contestation of this fact is taken as an action against security and peace in the region.
Increased interest shown by the West to the Treaty on Alliance and Integration signed between South Ossetia and Russia is surprising, as the Treaty is a logical continuation and development of the contractual legal framework of South Ossetia and Russia relations that was established in 2008. The Treaty isn’t aimed against third countries. Moreover, it would promote enhancing the whole regional security system.
To establish peace in the region we strongly recommend the EU representatives to stop supporting Georgian authorities in their claims for foreign territories and give up their intention to encourage the revanchist ambitions of Tbilisi.
