Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Murat Dzhioev, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, heading South Ossetian mission, hosted a meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions representing the EU, the OSCE and the UN, who arrived to Tskhinval on March 2 in anticipation of the coming 35th round of the Discussions.

Issues related to the agenda of the round scheduled for March 22-23 were discussed at the meeting.

Special attention was paid to the problem of maintaining security and to problem of intensifying activity aimed at development and conclusion of the document on non-use of force.

Despite the fact that border situation is generally stable, the necessity of timely feedback on arising threats to security at border area received from the parties was noted. Positive results of meetings organized within the IPRM were emphasized as well.

A number of humanitarian issues were discussed, including further work on search of the missing citizens of South Ossetia and mutual exchange of detainees.

With this background, the parties emphasized the importance of the Trilateral Coordination Mechanism on South Ossetian missing people’s case that had been organized with help of the ICRC and by February 5 had already hold 9 meetings.

File of the investigation conducted by Dusan Ignjatovic, an independent expert, on the case of the missing citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia was handed to South Ossetian party.

South Ossetian party reaffirmed its position on the impossibility of discussing the issue of refugees within the Geneva discussions until Georgian party stops turning this problem into a political issue and gives up the attempts to adopt the resolution on refugees at the UN General Assembly level.
