On September 10, 2009, the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia was recognized by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitrii Medoev sent a congratulatory message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Jorge Alberto Arreaza Montserrat on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The congratulation, in particular, says:
12 years ago, the people of Venezuela, who know the value of peace and freedom from their own experience, supported the people of South Ossetia in their many years of struggle for sovereignty and independence. This historic event, thousands of kilometers away, has linked two people of a kindred spirit in a friendly handshake for centuries.
The past years have strengthened interstate cooperation and allied ties between our countries. Today, on both sides of the ocean, we defend the same national ideas and human values, relying on the fundamental principles of international law.
Your Excellency, South Ossetia is closely following the events taking place in Venezuela, rejoicing in the successes of the fraternal people and empathizing with their failures. We are grateful to Venezuela for 12 years of friendship, solidarity and support at all levels of international communication.
I am convinced that trust, mutual understanding and respect for the choice of the path of national development will continue to be the basis for close interstate interaction and constructive bilateral cooperation.
Dmitrii Medoev also sent a congratulatory message to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Republic of South Ossetia, Carlos Rafael Faria Tortoza.
