The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia sent a note with words of solidarity and support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia in connection with the Memory Day of Defenders of Fatherland.
The note, in particular, reads:
“Exactly 31 years ago, on August 14, it have occurred the eventsthat marked the beginning of the bloody struggle of the Abkhazpeople for their freedom. Thousands of human losses, destroyedinfrastructure, humanitarian and economic blockade were theresult of Georgia's treacherous aggression against the civilianpopulation of Abkhazia. Demonstrating unparalleled heroismand selflessness, the defenders of Apsny offered a resoluterebuff to the superior forces of Georgian nationalists and wonthe right of the Abkhazian people to live and prosper in theirnative land. This is a great feat of courage, patriotism and self-sacrifice.
On this day, the people of South Ossetia share the anguish of bereavement with the families and friends of the victims and pay tribute to the blessed memory of the fallen defenders and civilians of Abkhazia”.
