On September 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia together with the A. Tibilov South Ossetian State University held a round table “South Ossetia - Russia: the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations” in the conference hall of the University.

The round table was dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.

Rector Vadim Tedeev, representatives of academic and political community of the Republic of South Ossetia, diplomats, experts in the field of international relations participated in the work of the round table.

Minister Akhsar Dzhioev welcomed the guests and the participants of the event and expressed its appreciation to the strategic South Ossetian-Russian partnership and alliance. Head of the foreign policy institution marked that over the 15-year period a firm ground have been laid for the comprehensive development of this partnership. A solid legal contractual basis, consisting of more than 130 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements has been created between South Ossetia and Russia.

Direct participants of the historical event itself attended the round table as well - the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia – Murat Dzhioev and State Advisor to the President of the Republic of South Ossetia - Konstantin Kochiev, who shared their personal impressions and spoke about the significance of that day.

During the meeting, the round table participants discussed issues of the bilateral South Ossetia-Russia relations and summed up the achievements over the past period of time.

The attendees were unanimous in the opinion that September 9, 2008 became the most important component of the process of recognition of South Ossetia by Russia, and that the bilateral relations moved to a qualitatively new interstate level, which allows for the consistent development of interaction based on trust and mutual understanding.
